Description:

The European directive on air quality (RRL 96/62/EU) on the subsequent directives assume information about statistical parameters of time series to assess air quality. To derive this statistical parameters model calculations are permitted formally. IVU Umwelt made wide statistical analyses with time series of more than 1000 stations of Umweltbundesamt   (Federal Environmental Agency). Amongst other objective classification for "urban", "traffic", "rural" and "mountain" stations were developed. Based on these classifications statistical models for the 1. and 2. subsequent directive thresholds were derived. With this models IVU Umwelt can deduce NO2 percentiles by NOx annual mean values.

One years annual mean values of NO2 for rural (yellow), urban (blue), traffic (red) and mountain (brown) stations. 2'678 measurements for the years 1956 to 1998, including 1'025 violations of the 40 µg/m³ threshold.
